Wanaka Wood Floors was recognised at The ATFA (Australasian Timber Flooring Association) Awards 2023, in August. These awards for Australia and New Zealand are to celebrate the workmanship and expertise in the timber flooring industry.
Wanaka Wood Floors was awarded for the second year running, the award for ATFA Recycled Floor of the Year. Then they took out the pinnacle award for the evening, Contractor of the Year 2023.
In competing against the top timber flooring specialists in Australia and New Zealand, a small family business from Wanaka has taken out this top award. “We are very proud to win the Contractor of the Year 2023, in recognition of the craftsmanship and skill of our whole team, and the hard work put in by all”, said Stephen Blackley of Wanaka Wood Floors.
President of ATFA, Mr Clayton Villars, said after the event, “Congratulations on winning the Solid Recycled Floor of the Year and Contractor of the Year. This is an excellent result for New Zealand.”
The ATFA Recycled Floor of the Year was voted for by all members of ATFA, and awarded for a recycled floor on a Wanaka property. The timber was supplied, installed and finished on site, by Wanaka Wood Floors, to reflect the character of the old building, made into a guesthouse.

The “Contractor of the Year 2023” for Australasia, was decided by a panel of industry experts, taking into account the aesthetics of finished jobs, skill and qualifications of staff and contractors, training by the company of staff and apprentices, online presence, marketing and the business model and systems.
ATFA is the industry association for timber flooring installers, sanders and finishers, manufacturers, suppliers and retailers. This is a strong member-based organisation focused on the timber flooring industry that delivers high-quality, industry specific services and technical information for members and community.
